I am beginning to plan an August trip that includes 7 full days and 8 nights including the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. We are a family of 5 with 3 teenagers. We are starting and ending in Salt Lake City and will arrive the first evening with plenty of time to set up camp. We prefer to camp inside the National Parks. We want to see/do the quintessential sights and hikes for these two parks, but want to avoid backtracking/excess driving. Putting the heavy travel days at the beginning and end of a trip tends to work best for us. I would appreciate any advice on good loop ideas, your favorite hikes, any not to miss sights, and any other ideas.
Day 1: loads of travel, arriving at a campsite in Yellowstone or Grand Tetons around 4pm.
Days 2-8: Enjoy the two parks with hiking, sight-seeing, ranger activities (in park camping only)
Day 9: drive to Salt Lake City, flying out in the afternoon
